Arthroscopy comes from the Greek word Artho & Scopien which literally means to look into the joint. Arthroscopy is a procedure by which various joints in the body (Knee, Shoulder, Ankle, Hip & Wrist) can be inspected and treatment is given by a small pencil-shaped instrument called arthroscopy surgery (Telescope). Although it is a significant surgery, it involves minimal invasion. This is a keyhole incision surgery where two single stitch incisions are usually enough to treat any problem which would have normally required a large incision. This has been made possible by technological advancement in the Bio-engineering field. The Arthroscopy procedure also allows the surgeon to treat various underlying minor issues of the joints by inserting ultra-thin surgical instruments through the same incision. Arthroscopy helps to diagnose and treat significant conditions which would else require open surgery.
